Contract Length

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year pediatric nursing experience
• Prior travel experience is not required (first-time travelers and travel duos are accepted)

Unit Details

• Pediatric unit with 24 beds (average census 12)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 total patient care, or 1:4-5 when paired with a nursing assistant
• Common patient types: respiratory issues, traumas, surgical cases, neurological conditions, suicide attempts, overdoses, eating disorders
• Responsibilities include drawing own labs and central line management
• Charge nurse takes assignments and modifies as needed
• Nursing assistants present, typically 2 RNs per 8-10 patients
• Pediatric residents available 24/7; intensivist lives nearby but not in-house
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes masks, nasal cannula, end tidal CO2 monitors
• Telemetry techs monitor remotely; RNs need basic arrhythmia knowledge
• No requirement to titrate drips

Scheduling

• Shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts)
• Self-scheduling with a tiered approach; block scheduling not allowed
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday, 2 out of 3 during winter
• No call or standby requirements

Floating

• May float to PICU
• May float to NICU if experienced
• May observe in adult areas depending on census

Orientation

• 1 day general hospital orientation
• 2 days unit-specific orientation

Dress Code

• Clean, professional, pediatric-appropriate scrubs

Note: Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have ended their employment at least 6 months prior to submission.
