Telemetry Float Pool Travel Nurse Opportunity
Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Telemetry Float Pool Nurse
- Required Experience: 2+ years of current telemetry nursing experience (highest stated requirement)
- Certifications: Active BLS, ACLS, and Arizona nursing license or compact license
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to titrate cardiac drips
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing (2 attempts max)
- Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- COVID vaccine required or approved declination
Job Details & Responsibilities
- Floating required between multiple units and two campuses (Chandler and Mercy Gilbert, approx. 9 miles apart)
- Floating units include: Telemetry, MedSurg, ICU, Cardiac Tele, Cath Lab, ER, observation floor, and other holding areas
- Notification of floating location given 1.5 hours before shift start; mid-shift floating possible
- Must clock out/in when moving between campuses
Units & Patient Care Details
Telemetry B3A (Cardiac Telemetry)
- Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To similar or lower acuity units
- Patient Types: Post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
- Medications: Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine (titrate down only)
- No pediatric patients (15 years and older)
- Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must interpret EKGs
- No ventilators
- Hospitalist coverage during day, on-call at night
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
Tele Neuro (Neuro Telemetry)
- Beds: 28
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
- Patient Types: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVA post TPA
- No ICP monitoring
- Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must interpret EKGs
- No ventilators
- Hospitalist coverage during day, on-call at night
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
Medical-Surgical C5
- Beds: 32 (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), including one major and one minor holiday
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To MedSurg Tele B2C and B2D units
- Patient Types: 80% Surgical, 20% Oncology; includes ortho knee/hip replacements, urological, abdominal, Whipple, women's surgeries (no OB/GYN)
- Telemetry: GE monitors with central monitoring tech
- No ventilators
- Hospitalist must be called for physician coverage
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- House SWAT nurse available for difficult IV sticks
- Use of Spectralink phones (call light attached)
Medical-Surgical B2C
- Beds: 29
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights), including one major and one minor holiday
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
- Floating: To MedSurg Tele C5 and B2D units
- Patient Types: General MedSurg patients requiring telemetry; medications include Amiodarone, Cardizem (titrate down only)
- Telemetry: GE monitors with central monitoring tech
- No ventilators
- Hospitalist must be called for physician coverage
- Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- House SWAT nurse available for difficult IV sticks
- Use of Spectralink phones (call light attached)
- This unit serves as the "new grad training unit" with clinical scholar mentorship for 4 weeks
Orientation & Training
- Dysrhythmia exam required before contract signing (2 attempts max)
- Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- Floor-specific orientation:
- Telemetry units: 2 days on the floor
- MedSurg units: 2 shifts on the floor
Additional Notes
- Charge nurses present on all units; they do not take patient assignments
- Clinical supervisors and unit supervisors provide management support
- Patient care includes titrating cardiac drips and interpreting EKGs
- Floating to different units and campuses is a core job function
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, variable environment with multiple patient types and acuity levels
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry nurses comfortable with floating and managing complex cardiac patients in a dynamic hospital setting.
