Registered Nurse (L&D/PP) - Travel Contract

Location: Oxnard, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)
Unit: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum (L&D/PP)

Job Overview

• Provide nursing care in a hospital setting specializing in Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units.
• Manage high-risk deliveries, patients of any gestational age, and cases involving substance abuse withdrawal.
• Support EMT drop-offs and patients with no prenatal care; critically ill patients may be transferred to higher-level facilities.
• Work with a diverse patient population, including many Spanish-speaking patients.
• Float between L&D, Postpartum, and occasionally NICU to care for grower/feeders.
• Circulate in C-section suites (scrubbing experience not required).
• Participate in weekend shifts (4 weekends per 4-week schedule).
• Optional call duty preferred.
• Holidays worked in coordination with permanent staff (typically one major and one minor holiday).

Unit Details

• L&D Beds: 7
• Triage Beds: 4 (+ 2 overflow beds)
• Postpartum Beds: 27 (+ 5-bed nursery)
• Average Births: 3 per day / 1,545 per year
• Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines
• Charge nurse and resource nurse support available
• OB techs assist with C-sections, deliveries, and unit support
• No ventilators or IV team on unit
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
• OB/Neonatologist on call 24/7 with 30-minute response time
• EMR system: Cerner
• Fetal monitoring system: FetalLink (integrates with Cerner)
• Scrub color: Navy

Required Qualifications

• Active California RN license
• Minimum 2 years of L&D/PP nursing experience (3 years preferred)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN (Advanced or Intermediate Fetal Monitoring)
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred (at least one prior travel contract)
• Ability to float between L&D, Postpartum, and NICU as needed
• C-section circulating experience required (scrubbing not required)

Orientation & Training

• Floor-specific orientation: 3 shifts
• Follow AWHONN guidelines for patient care and ratios

• Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with diverse patient needs
