Stepdown Care Unit RN

Overview

• Role: RN (Registered Nurse)
• Specialty/Unit: Stepdown Care Unit
• Location: Peoria, Illinois
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Schedule: One of two night shifts; every other weekend and every other holiday rotation

Required Qualifications

• Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• ICU/Intermediate (Stepdown) experience with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1 or 2:1
• Trach and vent experience
• Ability to titrate drips
• Must be able to work with the unit’s patient mix, including medical, neuro, neuro surgical, general/trauma surgical, and trauma patients

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS

Unit Details

• 21 beds
• 9 private rooms; the rest are semi-private
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 3:1
• Common patient conditions include COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, ESRD, liver failure, pancreatitis, GI bleeds, DKA, alcohol withdrawal/overdoses, complex pneumonia, stroke, seizures, post-op craniotomy, lumbar drains, trauma, post-op surgeries, radical neck dissections, total laryngectomies, cardiac patients, and patients requiring BiPAP, CPAP, face mask ventilation, trachs, chest tubes, G tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, central lines, and arterial lines
• Drips commonly used include Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and vasopressors if low dose or infrequent titration
• Tele techs interpret strips and RNs confirm
• Floating may include ICU if the clinician has extensive ICU experience; otherwise float to other Stepdown or Gen Med
• No call or standby requirement
• Scrub color is any color

Submission Requirements

• Last four digits of SSN
• Middle initial
• Requested time off
• Negative drug screen for all panels

Orientation

• 1 day for EPIC
• 1 day for unit orientation with the educator
• 1 day on the floor with an RN

Additional Notes

• Local placements within 50 miles are accepted
• Local rate adjustment applies within 50 miles
• Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Charge nurse is free unless staffing is not ideal, then they may take patients
• House supervisor is on site 24/7
• 2 PCTs per shift
