Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Job Summary

• Perform basic nursing duties including execution of physician orders, operation of pill call and sick call, assisting physicians in examinations and treatments.
• Apply nursing skills in care and treatment of inmates/residents.
• Dispense medication and document according to policies.
• Control medication, syringes, medical supplies, and equipment inventory.
• Perform emergency procedures as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
• Document and report activities in compliance with established policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist supervisor in evaluating medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
• Maintain strict security and confidentiality of medical records.
• Observe and record inmate/resident behavior.
• Inspect medical unit for contraband and securely store or dispose of supplies.
• Prepare and maintain various medical and operational records and reports.
• Interpret medical and legal documents including medical instructions and commitment orders.
• Support legal processes by researching charts and attending court hearings if necessary.
• Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and the public, demonstrating tact and good judgment.
• Help evaluate and recommend safety requirements for a safe working environment.
• Facilitate accreditation processes by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
• Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; respond to serious incidents and emergencies.
• Escort or coordinate movement of inmates/residents for medical treatment.
• Assist in investigations by gathering information, interviewing, and recommending disciplinary actions when appropriate.
• Work rotating shifts and perform physical security checks in confined areas.
• Manage interactions in potentially hostile environments with professionalism.

• Open availability required per scheduling policy
• 36-hour guarantee

Required Qualifications

• Valid LPN / LVN license in Arizona
• Minimum of 1 year correctional nursing experience, with correctional experience within the last year required

Additional Information

• No specific years of experience or prior travel experience required.
• Must be able to work in a secure, correctional environment with potential verbal abuse.
