Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel)
Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 7 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room (ER)
- Unit: Trauma Level II, 18-bed unit
- Patient Population: Stroke, cardiac, neuro, pediatrics, geriatrics, respiratory
- Patient Load: 3-4 patients per nurse
- Shift Requirements: 12-hour variable day/PM shifts (PM shift starts at 11am or 2pm)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Float Requirements: May be required to float to other locations (Merrill, Antigo, Medford, Stanley)
- On Call/Call Back: 12 hours in a 6-week period; 30-minute response time; minimum 2-hour call back pay
- Charting System: EPIC required
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis system
- Additional Duties: RNs draw labs, perform nebulizer treatments; respiratory therapists and X-ray staff on site
Requirements
Licenses & Certifications:
- Wisconsin RN License
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of Emergency Room nursing experience
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Prior Travel Experience: At least 1 year of travel nursing experience is firmly required
Work Environment & Expectations
- Fast-paced environment requiring resilience and ability to manage change
- Independent task management and timely completion of duties expected
- Scrub colors: Any color allowed
- Low census policy: Eligible for 36 hours of unbillable low census hours; may be placed on call during these hours with call back pay if called in
- Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed set hours except during holidays when unit is closed
- Flu and COVID vaccination policy: During flu season, travelers who decline vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with trauma experience and prior travel nursing contracts who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced trauma center environment.
