Job Opportunity: Music Therapist – Mental Health Inpatient Unit

Location: Trenton, New Jersey
Contract Length: 8 weeks

Schedule

• 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday (day shift)
• Rotating weekend coverage

Job Description

• Utilize music therapy techniques to support patients’ emotional well-being, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Work with patients with mental health conditions, developmental and learning disabilities, and age-related conditions.
• Perform group psychotherapy using music therapy to facilitate non-verbal and verbal communication.
• Conduct music therapy and psychoeducational groups for inpatient psychiatric patients.
• Perform comprehensive clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans to promote stabilization in adult and geriatric psychiatric populations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams in treatment planning.
• Document and maintain records of all services in compliance with regulatory and facility standards.
• Provide family education, crisis intervention, and therapeutic support as appropriate.
• Manage group therapy supplies within budget and recommend annual budget needs.
• Coordinate care with other departments and community agencies to support discharge planning and aftercare services.
• Participate in unit-based activities, continuing education, performance improvement initiatives, staff meetings, case conferences, and agency-sponsored educational sessions.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Mental Health license in New Jersey
• Minimum of 1 year of mental health experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Proficient in playing guitar, piano, drums, autoharp, and Orff instruments
• Strong vocal and singing abilities
