Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Location: Bay City, Michigan

Hours per Day: 12 hours
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement patient care plans aimed at returning patients to optimal health.
• Provide bedside nursing care and carry out medical orders.
• Delegate and oversee tasks performed by Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, OB Care Associates, Surgical Service Assistants, Nursing Clerks, and Psychiatric Technicians.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans.
• Assume leadership responsibilities including:

  • Integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegating and coordinating nursing care assignments.
  • Participating in patient conferences and discharge/transfer planning.
  • Teaching, guiding, precepting, and mentoring new employees and students.
  • Functioning as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and assignment delegation.
• Communicate relevant information clearly and effectively.
• Demonstrate strong organizational and planning skills.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience.
• Comfortable floating to Emergency Department (ED) and Step-down units.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications such as TCAR, TNCC, CCRN, SCRN.
• Neurosurgical experience.
• Open heart experience.
• Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not required.

Work Environment & Additional Details

• ICU nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2, or 1:1 for special populations.
• Step-down unit ratio: 1:4.
• Emergency Department ratios align with ICU when caring for holds.
• Dress code: Navy blue.
• Electronic Medical Record system: Cerner.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a regional acute care hospital with a focus on cardiovascular and neuroscience services, serving a large population in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
