Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PACU

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Start Date: April 27, 2026
Shift: Rotating 3 days of 12-hour shifts (07:00 - 19:00 and 19:30 - 07:30)
Weekend/Holiday/On-Call:

  • 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period required
  • Holidays as scheduled
  • On-call shifts required (1-2 twelve-hour shifts per 6-week schedule)

Unit Overview

  • 28-bed Main Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Provides 24/7 specialized peri-anesthesia care for patients of all ages (neonates through geriatrics)
  • Care for inpatients and outpatients undergoing scheduled or emergency surgery
  • Exposure to a broad array of surgical and medical specialties
  • Nurses must be competent in:
    • Vasopressor titration
    • Airway management
    • Care of ventilated patients
    • Blood product administration
    • Fluid resuscitation
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maryland
  • Minimum 1 year of recent PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PACU)
  • Years of experience: Minimum 1 year of recent PACU experience required
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Job Requirements & Expectations

  • Weekend, holiday, and on-call availability required
  • Floating within the specialty and to other units/facilities as needed
  • Uniform: Navy blue scrubs (pink for trauma; pediatric staff may wear child-friendly tops with navy pants)
  • Adherence to dress code and facility policies

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • I-9 or attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and state-specific exclusions
  • Drug screening (9-panel or 10-panel with fentanyl) within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • TDAP (required for units working with children)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccination proof required)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (medical/religious)
  • COVID vaccination not required for this location but documentation may be collected for tracking
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
  • Employment application/resume within 30 days of start
  • Verification of previous 5 years of work history

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must sign job description and confidentiality agreements prior to start
  • Security ID application must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required as applicable
  • Facility-specific training and orientation may be required, including Epic system training test-out options
