Location: Hannibal, Missouri

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Medical Telemetry
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM), every other weekend rotation
- Schedule: Blocked scheduling possible (discuss with manager)
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (60-mile radius rule)
- Charting System: EPIC
- Weekend/On Call: Every other weekend may be required
- First Time Traveler: Yes, acceptable
- Scrub Color: Black
Patient Population & Care
- Routine nursing care with RN to patient ratio of 5:1
- Patients requiring nursing assessment and vital signs every 8 hours
- Cardiac monitoring for hemodynamically stable dysrhythmias
- Care for patients with non-STEMI or unstable coronary syndrome post-resolution of chest pain
- Pre- and post-operative telemetry patients not requiring ICU
- Infectious disease patients requiring negative airflow isolation
- STEMI patients stable after 12-24 hours ICU monitoring
- Post-PTCA patients without STEMI or instability
- Suspected pacemaker malfunction and post-procedural observation (pacer, defibrillator, ablation)
- Stable patients transferred from ICU, Stepdown, or Emergency Department
Treatments & Procedures
- Routine finger stick blood sugar monitoring
- Stable cardiac or vasoactive drips/IV meds with titration up to 90 minutes (e.g., Diltiazem drip/IVP, Metoprolol)
- Special care includes multiple blood transfusions or fluid boluses within 12 hours
- Physician-performed procedures on unit include thoracentesis, paracentesis, central line insertion, bone marrow aspiration, chest tube insertion
Required Skills

Required Certifications & Licenses
- Missouri State RN License or Compact RN License
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required and must be updated annually)
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Required Experience
- Minimum 13 weeks contract length
- Prior travel experience not required
Additional Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, including social security trace, county searches, nationwide search, sex offender, education verification
- E-Verify, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and OIG checks required within 90 days of start
- Education verification required
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
- Immunizations: MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap (with declination or exemption forms accepted)
- 7-panel drug screen within 45 days of start
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- References from at least 2 recent prior employers
- Employment application and skills checklist required
Notes
- Candidates may request religious or medical exemptions for COVID-19 and influenza vaccines; exemptions require facility-specific forms and may include weekly testing and mask requirements
- Modules and orientation will be completed during onboarding
- Photo for badge required prior to start date

Nurse:patient ratios are great. This SDU has the best UTL and Director I’ve worked with in quite awhile.
Cons
Finding housing is a bit tough with it being a small town.
