Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Pediatrics

- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Job Description
- Position requires working 36/48 hour shifts accepted.
- Care for a mixed patient population including Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), adult patients in Emergency Room (ER), Med/Surg, and Level 1 Trauma units.
- Patient census averages 6-7 ventilated patients per day.
- Patient age range includes all ages: neonates, pediatrics, and adults.
- Patient-to-therapist ratio: 1:12.
- Approximately 40 patient visits per day.
- Must be competent in critical care respiratory therapy across all age groups.
- Required to float within the specialty and to other units/facilities within scope.
- Holidays scheduled as they fall; every other weekend required.
- On-call is not required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Maryland
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year
- Experience working with Neonate, Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, and Adult patients
- PICU and NICU experience
- Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience
- Competent to care for adult patients in assigned settings (e.g., ER, other units within scope)
Equipment Experience
- Familiarity with ventilators and respiratory equipment including:
- Maquet Servo i
- Draeger V500
- Jet Ventilation
- Oscillation
- Nitric Oxide therapy
Uniform
- Navy blue scrubs (pink scrubs for trauma assignments)
- Pediatric department: navy blue scrub pants with child-friendly tops in navy blue
- Undershirts: white if short sleeve, navy (or pink if trauma) if long sleeve
- Business casual attire for certain departments (no jeans, no open-toe shoes, no sleeveless tops, no shorts)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, nationwide and sex offender searches, education verification
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters
- Hepatitis B: positive titer or declination (series not accepted)
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel depending on facility) within 30 days prior to start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption for 2025-26 season
- COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of work history (attestation accepted if necessary)
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, badge photo, dress code review, and job description acknowledgment must be completed prior to start
Additional Notes
- Floating within specialty and sister facilities is required.
- Holidays and weekend shifts are mandatory as scheduled.
- On-call duties are not required.
- Local travelers may be considered under different terms.
This position is ideal for RRTs with strong pediatric and neonatal critical care experience who are comfortable working nights and managing a diverse patient population including adults.
