Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Marrero, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

• Schedule options:

  • Alternating 3x12 and 4x12 shifts every other week
  • Straight 4x12 shifts
• No first-time travelers accepted
• EPIC system experience required
• Weekend shifts required
• Holiday shifts required every other holiday
• Scrub color: Navy

Required Certifications & Skills

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - CPI Blue Card accepted only; may be completed onsite within 30 days of start

Required Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher, updated annually)
• Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher, updated annually)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher, updated annually)
• Core Part I, II, and III (required and updated annually)

Required Health Documents & Immunizations

• Physical exam within 12 months of start (not required by employer but required by placement agency)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper forms)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per current guidelines (two-step skin test or equivalent)
• TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
• Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declinations must be signed within 12 months of start)
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
• Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required annually (with accepted medical/religious exemptions and declinations)
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on sign-on date)

Background & Verification Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including:

  • Social Security trace
  • County, nationwide, sex offender, federal checks
  • FACIS Level 3
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with recent ED experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
