Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Days/Mids, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (07:00–19:30 or 11:00–23:30)
Hours per week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Work in a Level I Trauma Emergency Department.
- Patient volume: approximately 175 visits per day.
- Telemetry skills required, including proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias (a competency test will be administered).
- Trauma Level 1 experience preferred.
- Required clinical skills: ventilator management, IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation.
- Preferred skill: intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- No on-call duties.
- No floating outside scope of practice.
- Block scheduling accommodations are not available.
- Local candidates accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
- Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- At least 3 years of total travel nursing experience.
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) certification.
- Current Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Certification or proficiency in National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in an acute care setting.
- Clinical skills including ventilator (vent) management, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start, including nationwide and sex offender searches.
- Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable).
- National background check form and facility-specific background packet must be completed.
- WA WATCH search required for Washington state.
- Drug screening within the past 12 months required (pending drug screens at start are at clinical lead discretion).
- Two professional references required.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (not required by facility but required by agency).
- Mask fit test within 12 months prior to start (specific mask models required).
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or completed declination.
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive TB history. Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; vaccine series plus confirmatory titer required)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (09/29 - 03/31).
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes.
Facility and Orientation Information
- Facility is a Magnet, Teaching hospital with 500 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Epic (with hard stops).
- Scrub color: any solid color scrubs allowed; light blue scrubs provided on unit.
- Parking available onsite and offsite with shuttle service (weekday hours only).
- Orientation includes pass/fail testing with an 80% passing score required; failure results in cancellation.
- Candidates must complete assigned orientation modules prior to start.
- Badge photo required (professional quality, waist up, no hats, simple background).
- Facility-specific job description and policy acknowledgments must be signed.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete a Telemetry study guide and pass the dysrhythmia competency exam prior to starting.
- Candidates must comply with facility-specific health history, equipment safety, and code of conduct forms.
- No pending licenses accepted; all licensure must be verified and current before start.
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and training modules before being fully cleared to work.
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurses with prior travel assignments who are proficient in telemetry and trauma care, seeking a 13-week travel contract in a high-acuity Level I trauma center.
