Registered Nurse – CCU (Critical Care Unit)

Location: Dothan, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Facility Type: Level II Trauma Center
  • Unit: Critical Care Unit (CCU)
  • Shift Options: 36 or 48 hours per week by traveler preference; block shifts allowed
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1 or 1:2
  • EMR System: Epic (preferred)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Alabama
  • Minimum 2 years of CCU (Coronary Care Unit) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Ventilator management experience
  • BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Requirements

  • Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with proof
  • Scrubs: Navy bottoms with white top
  • Compliance documents due 1 week prior to start
  • Orientation offered every other Monday
  • Return to Office (RTO) preferred 3–5 days, maximum 7 days per 13-week contract
  • Must live at least 90 miles from the facility (no local candidates)
  • Former permanent staff ineligible for 10 years

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, sex offender registry, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG required within 30 days of start
  • Employment eligibility verification (I-9 and E-Verify) required
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
  • Drug testing: 10-panel within 90 days of start, updated annually; instant/rapid tests not accepted
  • Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire required
  • Annual fit mask test required (specific approved mask models only)
  • Flu vaccine required for all placements starting on or after September 15; no declinations accepted (medical/religious exemptions require mask-wearing)
  • COVID vaccine voluntary

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific modules prior to orientation (deadline: Friday before start)
  • NIH Stroke Certification required (must be current within 1 year and updated annually; completed through facility after clearance)
  • Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form and results required prior to orientation (time sensitive; must be hand-signed and witnessed)
  • Photo for badge required within 72 hours of signing contract (passport-style, no nose rings)
  • Preferred badge name confirmation required

References & History

  • Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months (may extend to 18 months if necessary)
  • Complete employment application/resume required
  • Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers with ICU experience are accepted.
  • Shift example provided: Night shift, 4x12 hours (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 48 hours per week.
  • Local candidates within 90 miles are not eligible.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with ventilator management and critical care in a trauma center setting, open to travel assignments with a 13-week contract length.
