Registered Nurse – Transplant Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 48
Unit Description
- Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Unit (36 beds) providing medical surgical, telemetry, and progressive care to adult pre- and post-transplant patients (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal) and intestinal rehabilitation patients.
- Adolescent patients (age 15+) are on the unit but cared for by core staff only.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 during the day, 1:6 at night (rarely 1:7 at night).
- Drip management required on all floors.
- Floating is frequent and mandatory within scope to meet staffing needs, including potential float to multiple other units and a nearby campus.
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some floors have LPNs.
- Facility is 100% nicotine-free.
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri night/Sat night).
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska.
- Minimum of 1 year of transplant nursing experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county, statewide, nationwide, and federal checks.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
- Education verification required.
- State-specific registry checks (Nebraska DHHS Adult & Child Services Registry) required within 30 days of start.
- Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required prior to start.
- Annual skills checklist required.
- Two professional references from work within the past 2 years required.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask models required).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if history positive, updated annually
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters required if low/equivocal)
- Hepatitis B titer (declination acceptable if non-reactive)
- 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters required if low/equivocal)
- Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually (specific panel required).
- Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
- COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemption or declination accepted.
- Baseline eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here).
Additional Information
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo on back; facility provides info on obtaining scrubs after confirmation.
- Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply.
- RTO (Request Time Off): Up to 2 weeks allowed; must be submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion.
- Blackout dates for RTO due to College World Series: June 11–22, 2026.
