Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Illinois, Chicago

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Med/Surg)
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
• Call Requirements: None
• Time Off (RTO) Policy:

  • Maximum 5 days off total, no more than 2 consecutive days
  • No time off allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
• Floating: Mandatory floating within scope as needed, including mid-shift float

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Must be completed within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Illinois fingerprinting required if indicated by state report
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • International background check required if candidate lived/worked internationally in past 7 years
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; medical or religious exemptions require approval for PAPR use
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
  • Varicella immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if low titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - May 4)
• Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; testing initiated within 48 hours of contract signing; marijuana testing not required
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months for starts on/after 4/14/24
  • Color blind testing required within 12 months for starts on/after 1/16/24
  • General competency exam required within 12 months for starts on/after 4/14/24

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Mandatory completion of PromisePoint EMR training modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
• Facility-specific forms must be completed with legal name and signatures prior to start
• Pyxis form required for RNs at select facilities
