Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Fullerton, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Position in Labor and Delivery unit with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM), totaling 36 hours/week.
• Must be open to working weekends; schedule may exceed every other weekend to meet unit needs.
• May be required to float to mother-baby unit.
• Scheduling requests due to additional employment will not be considered.
• Local radius for assignment is 50 miles.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
• Minimum 1.5 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Certifications:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Ability to perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Additional Requirements

• Must be willing to float to mother-baby unit as needed.
• On-call is not required.
• Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions must be included at time of submission.
• Facility may call off once per two-week pay period.

Background and Compliance

• Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually.
• Education verification required for nursing degree.
• Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start. Instant tests acceptable.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
  • COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
• Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.

Competencies and Training

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
• Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via online learning system.
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or completion of fetal heart rate monitoring assessment exam required for Labor and Delivery RNs.
• Must complete Epic training modules and provide transcripts prior to or shortly after start.

References and Employment History

• Minimum of 2 references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
• Employment application must include at least the last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates.
