Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Issaquah, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in Labor and Delivery with patient diagnoses including labor/preterm labor.
- Unit includes 8 labor rooms and 4 triage rooms.
- Responsibilities include circulating, OB-GYN care, post-op, pre-op, scrub, low risk antepartum, and low risk labor and delivery.
- Special procedures: blood/blood products administration, cardioversion/defibrillation, use of cooling/warming blankets, drains, epidural pumps, PCA pumps, syringe pumps, wound vac, and administration of heparin, insulin, magnesium sulfate.
- Attend all deliveries including high-risk deliveries, GYN surgeries, couplet care, low risk antepartum, and transition nursery.
- Staffing ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:3.
- Floating required to postpartum and NICU units based on skill set.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- AWHONN certification
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Orientation
- Reduced Non-Billable Orientation (NBO): 0 hours compared to standard 40 hours.
Staffing and Floating
- Float policy acknowledgment required; may be required to float to other nearby facilities.
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card (as applicable).
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma (required if internationally educated).
- NURSYS verification for RN license.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating fitness to work.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with declination option.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with declination option.
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination accepted.
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months; instant tests acceptable.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates; updated annually.
Training and Competency Requirements
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Competency exams including fetal heart rate monitoring assessment or valid EFM certification (AWHONN or NCC) for Labor and Delivery RNs.
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units.
References and Employment History
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates.
- Work history verification required if reference requirements are not met.
Additional Notes
- Candidates previously employed at other facilities within the same health system may be eligible for travel contracts after a 3-month separation.
- Active compact licenses are honored at all related facilities.
- Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required prior to start.
