Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-acuity, and fast-paced Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with an average daily census of 15 patients and 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float between postpartum and antepartum units; may also float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
- Function as a Baby Nurse during delivery and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
- Circulate in the operating rooms (4 ORs) during deliveries.
- Patient diagnoses include midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services for substance recovery, and community care clinics.
- Use EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
- Work schedule posted every 6 weeks; work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Pre-approved time off considered on a case-by-case basis.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington.
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with high-risk patients.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a high-acuity, high-pace environment.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Orientation
- No billable orientation hours required (0 hours NBO vs. standard 40 hours).
Floating and Additional Duties
- Floating required between postpartum and antepartum units and possibly to other Mother/Baby units within the system.
- Must acknowledge and comply with float policy.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates (updated annually).
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- TDAP (within 10 years, declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
Background and Verification
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must include SSN trace, death master index, sex offender registry, education verification, and other checks as applicable.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires transcript/diploma or CES report.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
- Work history verification required if reference exceptions are requested.
- WA State Patrol search required within 90 days of start for Washington placements.
Competency and Training Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or completion of fetal heart rate monitoring assessment exam required for L&D RNs.
- Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS (Workramp).
- EPIC training modules required; transcripts must be submitted and verified.
Additional Notes
- First-time travel nurses accepted.
- Candidates must have proof of all required certifications and licensure at submission.
- Pre-approved time off is limited and handled case-by-case.
- Candidates without required newborn care skills or OR circulation experience will not be considered.

Candidates must demonstrate strong clinical skills, relevant experience, and compliance with all licensure, certification, and health requirements.
