Pediatric Stepdown Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Rotating day/night shifts every 6 weeks
  • Schedule: Every other weekend off
  • Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
  • Patient Population: Pediatric cardiac stepdown unit
  • Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac defects (medical and surgical)
  • Procedures/Unit Details:
    • Trachs and ventilators
    • High flow nasal cannula
    • Post-op catheterizations
    • Post-op care after CTICU
    • Inotropes administration
    • Heart and lung transplant patients

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric cardiac stepdown nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS
  • TNCC
  • ENPC

Certifications

  • ACLS (American Heart Association only)
  • BLS (American Heart Association only)
  • PALS (American Heart Association only)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for NICU RNs
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – as applicable
  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – as applicable

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required within 24-48 hours of contract signing (temporary IDs/drivers licenses not accepted)
  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including all counties lived/worked, education verification through National Student Clearinghouse, international background check if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting within 60 days of start, must be updated for each new contract (fingerprints can pend at start if completed onsite)
  • Education verification required (highest degree verified through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if needed)
  • Sex offender search, Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Ohio Inmate Registry, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, and Ohio State Abuse Registry searches required within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 60 days prior to start, including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, fentanyl, and others
  • Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Infection Control Policy review and signature required prior to start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required within 1 year of start and updated annually; onsite fit testing allowed if prior testing not completed before start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (no longer required to submit copy; signature on Infection Control Policy accepted)
  • TB testing options: 2 PPDs or QGOLD/TSPOT within 12 months; additional requirements if positive result
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required within 10 years of start (vaccine must be after age 11)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required October 31 - May 31; medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella immunity required (positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal)
  • Hepatitis B immunity or declination required

Additional Notes

  • Legal name on all documents must match RN license exactly (no nicknames or maiden names)
  • Address on driver's license and other documents must match exactly; Ohio driver’s license address must be more than 60 miles from facility to avoid being considered local
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
