Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Connecticut
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
CVICU (2 years of experience)
CVICU experience within the last year
CCU - Coronary Care experience
ACLS
BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
NIHSS

Schedule / Work Expectations

Every other weekend required
Floating within scope may be required, including floating to stepdown as needed
Block scheduling is not available
RTO greater than 7 days requires approval

Unit Details

Hybrid unit with 8 cardiac ICU beds and 6 cardiac stepdown beds
ICU patients are primarily CT Surgery pre- and post-op, with occasional Advanced Heart Failure cases
Stepdown patients include CT Surgery, PV, and Heart Failure

Compliance / Onboarding

Background check and education verification required
Drug screen, physical exam, fit testing, TB screening, and immunization documentation required
References required, including one supervisor reference within the past year for this unit

Pros

Always given very easy assignments. Their MICU is combined with the MICU stepdown so travelers were put in stepdown once a week but it’s a 1:3 ratio there and assignments were fair

Cons

Very large unit so hard to get to know everyone/find people to help sometimes
