Occupational Therapist (OT) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Norfolk, Virginia

Job Description

  • Provide Occupational Therapy services in a home health setting with home visits and periodic office meetings.
  • Average patients per day: 5-6
  • Patient load: 5-10 patients per day, equating to roughly 6-8 points (30 points expected weekly).
  • Types of cases: Start of Care, Follow Ups
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Weekend rotation: No
  • On-call: No
  • Territory: Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from home clinic, covering Virginia Beach and Norfolk areas.
  • Estimated weekly travel: 100-150 miles
  • EMR systems used: HCHB, Pointcare
  • Guaranteed hours: No (if low patient census, may be floated to nearby clinic for additional hours)
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 full year of recent Adult Home Health experience (first-timers not accepted).
  • Current, valid Occupational Therapy license required (pending licenses not accepted unless license is expected within a few days).
  • CPR and BLS certification required (AHA, National CPR Foundation, or ARC accepted).
  • Reliable transportation and current driver's license required.
  • Agency-required liability insurance required.
  • Willingness to discuss weekend and on-call requirements during interview (varies by location).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year history, sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches as applicable.
  • Fingerprinting required for certain states and must be current (varies by state).
  • Education verification required.
  • Drug testing: 10-panel drug screen required.
  • Physical exam within 12 months confirming good health and no communicable diseases.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
  • COVID-19 vaccination series or declination required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination documentation required.
  • Two professional references required.
  • Work history verification for at least the last 7 years or two most recent employers.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all required documentation and training prior to assignment start.
  • Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate for travel between patient homes (commute to/from first and last patient not reimbursed).
  • Position created due to workload demand.
