Job Details

Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)
Required Skills and Experience
- Level 1 Trauma Experience
- Telemetry monitoring
- Ventilator management
Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for all RN/LVN candidates prior to start)
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all RNs within 1 year of start, updated annually except for certain exclusions)
Background and Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RNs, LPN/LVNs, and APs
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccination
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear a mask
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership; charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required including education details for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
- Annual review and acknowledgement of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training
- Annual review and acknowledgement of ethics and compliance policies
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually
This position requires compliance with extensive credentialing, background checks, health screenings, and competency exams to ensure readiness and safety in a Level 1 trauma and telemetry environment.
