Job Requirements & Details
- Experience: Minimum 3 years required
- Travelers: Accepts first-time travelers

- Schedule:
- Every other weekend coverage required
- No call requirement
- Self-scheduling allowed if manager can accommodate
- Must be willing to float to Perinatal if needed
Unit Information
- Unit Composition:
- 4 Triage beds
- 11 Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) beds
- 2 Operating Rooms (OR)
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) & Post-Partum
- Support Staff: 24 OB hospitalists & OB anesthesia
- Patient Population: Neonates, Adolescents, Adults
- Care Level: Low and High Risk Labor & Delivery
Required Skills
- Use of External Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Circulate for C-section
Unit Systems
- SBAR communication
- Omnicell medication system
- eMD Allscripts electronic medical records
Required Certifications
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- AWHONN Advanced certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
Time Off (RTO) Policy
- RTO must be submitted with submittal
- No RTO allowed during the first two weeks of assignment
- One holiday RTO may be submitted but is not guaranteed approval
- Must work most holidays
- Maximum of 3 days RTO allowed
- Once RTO is submitted, changes are only allowed to cancel time off
- Confirm all needed time off for the full 13-week contract before submitting
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Licenses & Background Checks:
- State nursing license verification within 14 days prior to start
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated monthly
- Education verification (highest level) required
- Health & Immunizations:
- Physical exam within 1 year, free of communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 lifetime vaccines required (declination allowed with form)
- Hepatitis B vaccine series, positive titer, or declination
- Seasonal Flu and COVID vaccinations or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
- Negative 7-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Fit Mask Testing:
- Required within 1 year of start and renewed annually for applicable units
- Religious exemptions available with documentation
- Fire Card:
- Required within 2 weeks after start, specific to Los Angeles
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units (strict pass policy)
- Fetal Monitoring competency exam for L&D RNs, updated annually
- Other Training:
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), or VIP onsite training required for ER and ICU RNs (physical in-person portion required within 90 days of start)
- California Harassment Prevention Training (1 hour for non-supervisory, 2 hours for management level)
References & Employment History
- Clinical candidates: 2 professional references from manager or above, validated within 2 years
- Non-clinical candidates: 1 supervisory reference, validated within 2 years
- Employment application/resume required with at least 1 year relevant experience and 7 years work history if applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually (not required for non-licensed workers)

- Photo for badge required (white background, shoulders up)
- Facility-specific pre-start modules must be completed before assignment start
- Background check attestation allowed if county search pending at start
- Candidates must be prepared to work most holidays and adhere to strict RTO policies
This position offers a dynamic environment in a busy OB/L&D unit with a diverse patient population and requires strong clinical skills in fetal monitoring and C-section support. Compliance with all certifications, health requirements, and facility policies is mandatory.
