Travel Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Omaha, Nebraska

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Mixed Acuity: Medical Surgical/Telemetry & Stepdown)
• Location: Omaha, Nebraska
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift Options: 36 or 48 hour shifts; 13 or 26 week contract options
• Unit: 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery, including long-term EEG monitoring
• Patient Population: Strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, neurological conditions
• Patient Ratios:

  • Med Surg/Telemetry: 1:5 days / 1:6 nights (rarely 1:7 nights)
  • Stepdown: 1:3-4 days and nights
• Floats: Frequent floating required within scope, including to multiple units and potentially Bellevue campus

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital (highest required)
• Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
• Licensure: Active RN license for Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start)
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • PALS and NRP as applicable per unit
• Skills:

  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Drip medication administration required on all floors
• Other Requirements:

  • Must be willing to float frequently
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during contract
  • Locals NOT accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
  • 100% nicotine-free facility
  • Mandatory scrubs (specific color and branding required)

Schedule & Time Off

• Weekend Shifts: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period

  • Days: Saturday and Sunday
  • Nights: Friday night and Saturday night
• RTO (Request Time Off): Up to 2 weeks allowed; must be submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion
• Blackout Dates: No time off during College World Series (6/11/26 - 6/22/26)

Facility Environment

• Multi-care level unit with care teams including CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
• Teaching hospital with complex patient population and cutting-edge research and education

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background check within 30 days of start (includes nationwide and federal checks)
• SAM and OIG checks required and updated every 30 days
• Education verification required
• State-specific abuse/neglect registry checks required
• Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required
• Various certifications and competencies as applicable (NIH Stroke Certification, Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam, Color Blind Testing, Competency Exam)
• Health documents required:

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
  • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years
  • Annual PPD or equivalent TB testing
  • MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella vaccination or titers
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
  • COVID vaccine preferred (exemptions accepted)
• References: 2 work references from past 2 years required
• Annual skills checklist required
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with strong acute care skills in neurology and medical-surgical telemetry, comfortable with floating and working in a fast-paced, academic medical center environment.
