Job Summary: Hematology/Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in an outpatient hematology clinic (both malignant and non-malignant hematology patients)
- Responsibilities include rooming patients, phlebotomy, central line care, assisting with bone marrow biopsies, vaccinations, EKG, phone triage, scheduling for infusions, patient education, and case management
- No chemotherapy or infusion administration in this setting
- Patient population: Adult hematology patients only
- Unit uses EPIC Dimensions ambulatory clinic system
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (5x8 hours)
- No float or weekend requirements
- Nurses should bring their own stethoscope
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in Hematology/Oncology
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required; oncology clinic experience preferred. Acute Oncology/Hematology experience will be considered.
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
- Skills:
- Phlebotomy
- Central line care
- Bone marrow biopsy assistance
- EKG and phone triage
- Patient education and case management
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology certifications such as ONS, BMTCN, or OCN are preferred but not required
Patient & Unit Details
- Adult hematology patients (malignant and benign)
- Manual differentials performed by lab personnel, not RNs
- EPIC Dimensions ambulatory clinic system access required
- Clinical orientation specific to oncology/hematology outpatient setting required (not inpatient/acute)
Compliance & Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific registry checks required within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Immunizations and titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Medication safety training and other facility-specific orientation modules required
- Competency exams as applicable (e.g., medication test, pharmacology)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam not required for this outpatient clinic setting

- Navy blue scrubs required (not provided)
- Interview with manager required prior to offer
- Must have EPIC Dimensions ambulatory clinic access and oncology clinical orientation
- Candidate must bring their own stethoscope
