Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele Float)

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours (1900-0730)
  • Start Date: March 23
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
  • First-time Travelers: Not accepted (HARD STOP)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, flexibility requested
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License: Not accepted, but compact license accepted with requirements

Specialty & Skills Requirements

  • Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Must pass a fill-in-the-blank tele test at orientation (pass/fail)
  • Experience with peripheral nerve catheters, especially on orthopedic floors
  • Experience required in Ortho, Neuro-Stroke, Cardiac Telemetry
  • Ability to split 12-hour shifts into 8 hours in one area and 4 hours in another (good time management skills needed)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Experience in float nursing
  • Experience in Orthopedics, Neurology, Stroke, and Cardiology
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working in an Acute Care setting
  • Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification – Required for MS/Tele Float and related units
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing – Required for RNs completing Relias EKG Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Must pass with 80% or higher; only 2 attempts allowed
  • Other certifications may be preferred or required depending on unit (e.g., CCRN, TNCC for ER, PALS, NRP, CHEMO)

Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% required in dosage calculations)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
  • Competency Exam (required)
  • Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (if working in GI Lab/Endo or certain Ambulatory Care areas)

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for Washington State or compact license accepted with additional requirements
  • Primary source verification required
  • Temporary licenses not accepted unless all pending requirements (fingerprinting, etc.) are completed prior to start

Background Checks & Screening

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start
  • Must include nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 1, WATCH (WA Access to Criminal History)
  • Education verification required for Med Lab Techs (not applicable here)
  • Additional state-specific searches and federal exclusions (OIG, SAM) required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year (not required by facility but required by agency)
  • Mask Fit Test within 12 months (specific mask models required)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination with acknowledgment
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days; annual TB questionnaire required
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines required; declination allowed with acknowledgment
  • Hepatitis B: positive titer or declination required; vaccine series and re-titer protocols apply
  • Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines required; declination allowed with acknowledgment
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Sept 29 - Mar 31)
  • COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes
  • Drug screening within past 12 months (agency requirement, not facility)

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
  • Orientation testing is pass/fail with 80% passing score required
  • Badge photo required (professional quality, waist up, no hats or face coverings)
  • Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be signed (e.g., license acknowledgment, equipment safety, health history, policies and procedures, security info, personal data)
  • Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in Washington with compact licenses
  • 2 professional references required

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is required (first-time travelers not accepted)
  • Manager prefers to avoid travel pairs
  • Candidates must be flexible with weekend scheduling
  • Candidates must be prepared for a high-volume orthopedic floor environment and multiple specialty float assignments

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with strong telemetry and critical care skills who have prior travel contract experience and are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced, teaching hospital environment.
