PACU RN

Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 06:00 AM – 2:30 PM


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care based on biological, physical, and psycho-social sciences, using evidence and nursing theory.
  • Coordinate and manage nursing care for patients, families, and the community to maintain and restore optimum health.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Additional Competencies

  • Population-specific competencies and additional certifications may be required (e.g., PALS, NIH, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention).
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse patient populations, respecting dignity and diversity.

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

Health & Immunizations

  • Fit Test for N95 respirators (3M 1870+ N95, Medline Cone Small, 3M 1860 Reg & Small).
  • Pre-employment physical within one year confirming ability to perform essential job functions safely.
  • Immunization or titer proof for:
    • MMR (2 vaccines or titer; no declinations accepted).
    • Hepatitis B (3-series vaccine or titer; signed declinations accepted).
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; no declinations accepted).
    • 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) with negative results; no declinations accepted.
  • Annual TB questionnaire (facility-specific form).
  • Influenza vaccine required October-April (medical/religious exemptions require approval).

Drug Screening & Background Checks

  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually.
  • Comprehensive criminal background check (7-year FCRA compliant search plus SSN trace, counties, statewide, nationwide, OFAC, FACIS Level 3).
  • OIG, EPLS, and other exclusionary database checks within 90 days of start.

Documentation & Testing

  • Valid government-issued photo ID.
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists completed within one year and updated annually.
  • Completion of core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics within 90 days of start and annually thereafter.
  • Education verification by third party.
  • Social Security card or number confirmation.
