Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

• Unit Type: Mixed acuity unit caring for both PCU and Med Surg patients.
• Patient Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics.
• Patient Diagnoses:

  • Surgical Oncology (breast, thyroid, melanoma)
  • Hepatobiliary (liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract cancers, neuroendocrine)
  • Colorectal (colon, rectal cancer)
  • Plastics (reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma)

Staffing and Scheduling

• Staffing Ratios: Goal is 1:4, but can be 1:5.
• Weekends: Variable based on unit needs.
• Scheduling: No set/blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests are accepted.

Orientation

• First Week: Monday to Friday, day shift.
• Second Week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum Experience: 2 years of nursing experience required.

Special Procedures/Unit Details

• Chemotherapy administration
• Blood transfusions
• IV antibiotics
• Management of oncologic emergencies
• Insulin and heparin drips
• Focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Preferred Certifications

• ONS Chemo (Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy)

Computerized Charting

• System Used: EPIC

Additional Information

• Background Check: 7-Year Criminal Background Check required.
• Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen required within 3 months of start.
• Health Documents:

  • Physical Exam
  • Vaccination records (MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Hepatitis B, etc.)
  • TB screening (Negative PPD, QGold, or TSPOT)
• References: 2 professional references required, including at least one from a manager or director.
