Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work on a General Medical Unit (GMU) step-down unit caring for general medical and oncology step-down patients.
• Available schedules: 36 or 48 hour weeks (indicate preference).
• Nurse to patient ratio typically 1:4-6; ratios may flex higher with support staff. Chemo admits decrease assignment ratios.
• Floating to other med-surg areas including Acute Unit (AU) and Emergency Room (ER) to care for med-surg patients.
• Weekend work: every other weekend.
• Scheduling: Weekends assigned by manager/scheduler; other days can be self-scheduled.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior request.
• Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment.
• Requests for time off after offer must be discussed with onsite manager.

Required Qualifications

• License: Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • ONCC or ONS certification (must have one; pending ONS accepted but ONC must be in hand)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years PCU/Stepdown experience.
• Skills:

  • Administering chemotherapy via IV.
  • Starting IVs.
  • Experience with Welch Allyn Vital Sign towers, Sigma IV pumps, and EPIC documentation system.

Additional Requirements

• Must work every other weekend.
• No call required.
• Floating to other med-surg areas including AU and ER.
• Nurse to patient ratio 1:4-6, with support staff if ratios flex higher.
• Charge RN typically not assigned patients.
• Chemo admits reduce assignment ratios.

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start.
• Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of 1 prior Tdap vaccine).
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 30 days of start.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (no exemptions).
  • Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (medical/spiritual).
• References: One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
• Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
• Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit.
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required.
