Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Role as a VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) Coordinator managing patient and caregiver education, routine and urgent telehealth care, emergency patient management via phone, clinic visits, equipment management and downloads.
  • Serve as the expert resource for VAD equipment and alarms in the hospital, including OR and procedural settings.
  • Responsibilities include troubleshooting alarms, checking equipment integrity, changing out equipment as needed, and escalating device issues to the company.
  • Educate staff, patients, and caregivers on VAD devices.
  • Triage issues independently from call center, emergency line, and patient portal.
  • Approximately 80% outpatient work with some procedure area coverage.
  • Devices primarily include HeartMate 3, HeartMate 2, and BrioVAD.
  • Patient load approximately 210.

Schedule

  • Shift options: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Typical workweek: 4x 10-hour shifts (40 hours) or 2x 10-hour and 2x 8-hour shifts (36 hours).

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in specialty (higher value from screening and description)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, no certificates of completion accepted
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, no certificates of completion accepted
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) as applicable
    • VAD-C certification preferred but not required
  • Licensure: Valid RN license for Michigan
  • Other Requirements:
    • EPIC experience required
    • Ability to pass facility-specific pass/fail testing (EKG/Medication competency)
    • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG clearance
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Fit mask test within 1 year (N95 or equivalent)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with annual TB questionnaire if past positive)
    • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (titers or vaccines with boosters as needed)
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
    • Annual seasonal flu vaccination required with no exemptions allowed

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required. First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Must be able to independently triage and manage VAD-related issues across multiple settings.
  • Strong communication skills for patient, caregiver, and staff education.
  • Compliance with facility-specific orientation, confidentiality, code of conduct, and other policy attestations required.
  • Two recent professional references required (from managers/supervisors; charge RN references not accepted).
