Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Critical Care)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Nights: 7 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend plus holiday rotation
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
  • Float Pool: RN will float within scope to all Pediatric units including CVPICU, NICU, PICU
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of Pediatric ICU experience (higher experience requirement applies)
  • First Time Travelers: Accepted if they meet experience requirements
  • License Required: South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact RN License
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (American Heart Association only)
    • PALS (American Heart Association only)
  • Preferred Experience: ECMO, CRRT
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local Radius: 60 miles; locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS: American Heart Association (AHA) certification required for all clinical staff
  • PALS: Required for all Pediatric units (except Pediatric OR where preferred)
  • ACLS: Not required for pediatric units
  • NRP: Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification through AHA/AAP required
  • TNCC: Trauma Nursing Core Course required except for ER RNs
  • EFM: Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification required for Labor & Delivery (AWHONN Intermediate)
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Competency Exam: Required; Pediatric OR prefers pediatric-specific exam but regular OR exam acceptable
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start

Licensure & Verification

  • State License Verification: Primary source verification required showing active, unencumbered license with no pending actions
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Walk-Through/Temporary Licensure: Available for SC RN license applicants without prior background issues
  • License Hits: All licensure issues must be approved by facility

Background & Employment History

  • Background Check: Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM & HHS/OIG Checks: Required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Employment Application: Must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
  • Vaccinations:
    • COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred but not required; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
    • TB Test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be required for low titers
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2 hours; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background required before start
  • Documentation Upload: COVID and flu vaccine records must be uploaded into facility system
