Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Work in a brand new ICU unit expected to open by 3/8/2026.
  • Flexibility required as the unit is new and may have evolving processes.
  • Step-down unit option available for ICU RNs interested in that setting.
  • Patient ratio: 1:3

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required.
  • Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted.
  • Epic electronic health record experience required.
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (AHA Provider)
    • BLS (AHA Provider)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Floating expectations: May float to ICU and ED for helping hands.
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.

Patient Diagnoses

  • Respiratory Failure
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis
  • Sepsis
  • Post-surgical care (neuro, cardio-thoracic, general)
  • Stable single organ trauma
  • Stroke

Special Procedures & Equipment

  • Arterial/Central Line Management
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Bipap/High Flow oxygen therapy
  • Epicardial wires
  • Chest tubes
  • Lifts in every room
  • Noninvasive fluid management system
  • Air taps for certain patient criteria

Unit Systems

  • Medication, documentation, and communication systems include Omnicell, EPIC, and SBAR.

Orientation & Work Details

  • Unit orientation: 36 hours
  • Scrubs: Any color allowed
  • Team nursing approach with helping hands
  • Patient assignments aligned with clinical role and team

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start, including:
    • Social Security verification
    • National sex offender registry
    • Criminal background checks (excluding NH counties; NH state police search required)
    • Education verification
    • Drug screening (10-panel within 14 days prior to start)
  • State-specific releases and verifications required (e.g., NH Statewide Release).
  • Professional licensure verification required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
  • Fit mask test annually required (N95 or equivalent).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (within last 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or waiver
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required (with medical or religious exemptions allowed)
  • Respiratory safety clearance questionnaire required.

Additional Requirements

  • Two current professional references within the last 3 years, including one from a supervisor or charge nurse.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Annual internal evaluation for travelers with Aya or agency over 1 year.
  • Pass/fail dysrhythmia/ECG competency exam required onsite for critical care units.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification preferred.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification preferred.

Important Notes

  • Travelers who have ever been employees of the associated health system are not eligible.
  • Candidates must be flexible and adaptable due to the new unit status.
  • Floating to ICU and ED may be required as part of team nursing.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable working in a dynamic, newly established critical care environment.
