Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 16 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Unit: 6900 GI/GU (Med Surg)
• Shift: 7 PM - 7:30 AM (First week day shift 7 AM - 5 PM)
• Patient Ratios: 1:4-6
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-call: No
• Floating: Within service line only
• Block Schedule: Not accommodated
• Locals Accepted: No (75 mile radius)
• Pending License Accepted: Yes
• Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Experience & Skills Requirements

• Years of Med Surg Experience Required: 2 years
• Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-timers (prior travel experience required)
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Epic system experience required
• Skills Required:

  • Med/Surg nursing
  • Telemetry (remote monitoring)
  • Colostomy care
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line blood draws
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • Phlebotomy
  • PICC line management
  • Starting IVs
  • Heparin, Insulin, PCA management
• Additional Competencies:

  • Must pass Relias EKG exam (Interpretation/Management of Dysrhythmias required)
  • Basic knowledge of telemetry preferred
• Special Procedures/Unit Details:

  • Foley catheter care
  • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • TURPS protocols
  • Colorectal patient protocols
• Patient Diagnoses:

  • Ostomy, colon resection, colon cancer, bladder cancer, GU issues, medical overflow
  • High turnover surgery patient unit

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government issued ID required
• Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required
• Professional license primary source verification (Missouri license verifiable on NURSYS)
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test required and must be renewed annually
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with yearly questionnaire)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
• Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Various facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, hand hygiene, dress code, and orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) must be completed prior to start
• Unit-specific competency exams including medication/pharmacology, oncology (if applicable), and dysrhythmia/EKG exam required and must be updated annually

• First-time travel nurses are not accepted for this position.
• Must have excellent documentation skills and a team-oriented attitude.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Floating is limited to within the service line.
• Pending licenses are accepted.
• Parking information and costs vary depending on shift and location (not included here).

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with prior travel experience looking to work in a high-acuity GI/GU unit at a large Magnet and teaching hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.
