Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Nashua, New Hampshire
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience (highest required)
  • Prior travel experience required; unit does not accept first-time travelers

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (AHA Provider only)
  • BLS (AHA Provider only)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) preferred
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) preferred
  • Epic experience required

Skills & Competencies

  • Epic electronic health record system
  • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation (including arrhythmias, blocks, paced rhythms, life-threatening arrhythmias)
  • Central line management
  • Peripheral IV insertion
  • Post cardiac catheterization recovery
  • Feeding tube management
  • Ability to float to ICU, ED, and other Med/Tele units
  • Pass/fail Basic Dysrhythmia EKG exam required within 48 hours of contract signing (80% passing score)

Unit & Patient Details

  • Staffing ratio: 1:5-6
  • Patient age groups: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
  • Shift: 48-hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Unit: Adult primary Cardiac Unit (31 beds)
  • Common patient diagnoses: Atrial fibrillation, NSTEMI, Heart Failure, Stroke, post pacemaker/biventricular device insertion, post cardiac cath recovery, PE/DVT, vascular patients
  • Special equipment: Nihon Kohden Cardiac Monitoring System, Telemetry Monitoring, Bedside Cardiac Monitoring
  • Unit systems: Pyxis medication system, Epic documentation, SBAR communication

Orientation & Testing

  • Competency-based orientation program specific to cardiac and telemetry patients
  • Telemetry exam on arrival (closed book, proctored, 60-minute time limit)
  • Pass/fail Basic Dysrhythmia EKG exam within 48 hours of contract signing

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Comprehensive background check within 30 days of start (includes Social Security verification, criminal searches, sex offender registry, education verification, etc.)
  • State-specific releases and verifications required (e.g., NH Statewide Release)
  • Two current professional references within last 3 years (one must be from a supervisor or charge RN)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual internal evaluation for travelers with Aya or agency over 1 year

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
  • 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start
  • Fit mask test annually (N95 or equivalent masks)
  • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (medical or religious exemptions allowed with documentation)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or equivalent) plus TB questionnaire
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declinations accepted with waiver)
    • Varicella (no history of disease accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during October 31 - April 1 period (medical or religious exemptions allowed with documentation)
  • RespSafety clearance questionnaire required prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Must assist with patient sitting and team nursing approach
  • Will not take patients outside clinical assignment or team
  • Facility requires documentation of OSHA education (Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement)
  • Copy of professional state license required (including temporary licenses with specific expiration handling)

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with prior travel assignments, strong telemetry and cardiac care skills, and proficiency in Epic. Night shift availability and flexibility to float to critical care areas are essential.
