Job Summary: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Labor and Delivery RN
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Work Schedule: Weekend shifts required every other weekend (6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, including Saturday and Sunday)
- Ratios: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Yes, within scope to cover Labor & Delivery (LDR) and Postpartum Unit (PPU)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling/block scheduling accommodated
- Local Radius Rule: 50 miles (locals not accepted)
- Guaranteed Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
- Cultural Competency: Must have sensitivity to Alaska Native population; patient population is complex with significant social history and domestic violence issues
Licensure
- License: Compact nursing license accepted to start, but must apply for Alaska RN license immediately after signing due to 10-12 week processing time
- Pending License: Not accepted without proof of Alaska license application
- State License: Alaska RN license required eventually
Certifications Required
- AWHONN Intermediate
- BCLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS for other specialties, but not specified here)

Special Requirements & Notes
- Cultural sensitivity to Alaska Native population is essential
- Complex patient population with social and domestic violence history
- Must complete various facility-specific onboarding and compliance documents prior to start
- No on-call requirement
- Floating within Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam (annual renewal)
- Fit mask test (annual renewal, must be completed prior to arrival)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccine, titer, or facility-specific declination)
- Varicella
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical exemption required during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination required (initial series or J&J dose accepted; medical exemptions with doctor’s letter accepted; religious exemptions not accepted)
Background & Competency Checks
- Standard background check within 90 days of start
- Sex offender search within 30 days of start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Clinical skills checklist required
- References: 2 clinical references required
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted
