Job Details

- Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00 - 7:30)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Unit: Mixed Acuity - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (MS) patients
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday to Friday, dayshift orientation
- Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Scheduling: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; schedule reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs
- Oncology experience: Preferred but not required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Tracheostomy management skills
Required Certifications & Exams
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam:
- Required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Not required for certain excluded units or fully remote positions
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) - check unit-specific requirements
Licensure & Background Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
- NURSYS verification required for RN license
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Background checks monitored monthly (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- High school diploma or GED verification (if applicable)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31) with mask requirement if declined
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Drug Testing
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Panels include Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Cannabinoids (THC), Cocaine, Methadone, Methaqualone, Opiates, PCP, Propoxyphene
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Self-scheduling requests allowed before final schedule posting
- Must comply with dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Required to complete annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Fingerprinting results must be submitted according to Ohio state requirements; proof of completion required for subcontractors
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment (check unit-specific requirements)
This position offers a rotating 12-hour day/night schedule on a mixed acuity PCU and MS unit with a focus on telemetry and tracheostomy care. Oncology experience is a plus but not mandatory. Prior travel experience is preferred but not required.

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
