Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU (Columbus, Ohio)

Position Details

  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: Days, 3 shifts of 12 hours (3x12s), weekdays and some weekends
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Float: May float to lower acuity units as needed
  • EMR System: EPIC (experience preferred)

Key Responsibilities

  • Start and manage IVs
  • Administer medications safely
  • Monitor vital signs and patient responses
  • Educate patients on treatments and self-care
  • Collaborate with the care team on patient care plans
  • Follow hospital policies and maintain patient safety

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system
  • Prior travel nursing experience is a plus (not required)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Monthly monitoring through workforce screening systems
  • Various facility-specific compliance forms and acknowledgments required

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – may be required depending on unit
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam)
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific exams

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies

This position offers a structured schedule in a progressive care setting with opportunities to work in lower acuity units. Candidates must meet strict licensing, certification, background, and health requirements to ensure compliance and patient safety. Prior travel experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
