Job Opportunity: Medical Lab Technician

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend coverage: Every other weekend
  • Role: Generalist with Blood Bank experience required
  • Experience: No first-time travelers accepted
  • EPIC experience required

Required Qualifications

  • Medical Lab Technician with at least 1 year of experience
  • Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
  • Experience with Epic system
  • Blood Bank experience required

Certifications & Training Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or ARC only
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA or ARC only (if applicable)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (verify during onboarding)

Compliance & Documentation

Candidates must provide and maintain the following, with verifications typically required within 30 days of assignment start:

  • Proof of identity and eligibility to work (I-9, Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Background checks including 7-year history and various federal/state databases
  • Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (not required for remote workers)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Respirator fit test to be completed onsite during orientation

Orientation & Testing

  • Completion of online orientation modules within 72 hours of assignment
  • Pre-assignment testing (medication and competency exams) must be completed timely with limited attempts
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport-style, plain background)

Additional Notes

  • This position is for experienced travel Medical Lab Technicians only; no first-time travelers will be considered.
  • Candidates must be prepared for night shifts and weekend rotations.
  • Compliance with all facility-specific policies and annual training requirements is mandatory.
