Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Glenview, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR)
- Shift: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
- Call Requirements: Pre-assigned call shifts; 1-2 shifts per week expected
- Weekend Requirements: 2-3 weekend days per 8-week schedule
- Holiday Requirements: Option to pick up holiday call assignments or fill gaps
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 for all shifts (16 rooms, 16 beds)
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
- Experience in vascular, ophthalmology, and general OR required
- Vascular call experience required
- Preferred experience in CVOR & Hybrid OR
- Required surgical case experience includes:
- Endo/Laparoscopic, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular
- Specific vascular skills required:
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair, Aortocaval fistula repair, Aortoenteric fistula repair, Arteriovenous fistula repair, Arteriovenous malformation surgery, Atherectomy, Carotid angioplasty, Carotid artery stenting, Carotid Endarterectomy, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, Femoral popliteal bypass graft, Renal artery bypass surgery, Scrub Vascular Surgery, TEVAR (Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair), Vein stripping
- General surgery skills required:
- Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Scrub General Surgery, Thyroidectomy (partial/total)
- Ophthalmology skills required:
- Cataract extraction/implant, Eye trauma, Glaucoma surgery, Vitrectomy, Scrub Ophthalmology Surgery
- Urology skills required:
- Cystoscopy
- Trauma amputation experience required
- Equipment experience: Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords
- Professional knowledge: Administration of blood products, Cardiac monitoring, Infection control, Laser safety, Radiation safety, Specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- BLS required
- CNOR preferred
Additional Requirements
- Prior travel experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (first-timers not accepted)
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
- Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
- Background checks and standard healthcare compliance documents required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start required
- Immunizations and health screenings required, including:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella vaccine series or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer required
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Drug testing: 10 panel within 30 days of start
- Vision testing (Snellen and Ishihara color vision) within 1 year of start
- Two professional references required

Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in Ophthalmology, Urology, and Vascular Surgery
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Knowledge of NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong vascular and ophthalmology skills who are comfortable with a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment and meet the licensure and certification requirements.
