Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Chemotherapy

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Description

  • Work schedule: 3 or 4 shifts of 12 hours each (Days, 07:00 - 19:30)
  • Will work every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Must be certified in Chemotherapy
  • Will float to other Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Facility type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center

Required Certifications and Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Oncology experience, including experience within the last year
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Chemotherapy
  • Minimum years of experience: 3 years (based on certification and specialty requirements)
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass a 7-year criminal background check and other standard background screenings
  • Must complete various competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing
  • Required to complete multiple facility-specific training modules and attestations (e.g., Stroke Education, CLABSI Prevention, Pressure Injury Prevention, Language Services, CAUTI Education, Patient Transportation with Oxygen, Suicide Risk Assessment, Pyxis MedStation, Baxter Pump Interoperability, Patient Bedside Rounding, Ventricular Assist Device Awareness, Blood Administration, New Employee Orientation, 21st Century Cures Act, ED Handbook, eCart Training, Chaperone Policy Training)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start and updated annually (N95 preferred)
  • Required immunizations and health screenings including TB test, Tdap (preferred for some specialties), MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccination or approved exemption, and drug screening
  • Employment history verification for the last 7 years with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable

  • May float to other MedSurg units as needed
  • Facility uses EPIC for charting
  • Level II Trauma Center
