Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Oncology
Location: Bristol, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: 36/36 (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
- Every other weekend required
- No call duties
- Floating to other units as needed
- Travelers do not administer chemotherapy
- Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
- Additional shifts beyond commitment may be offered as overtime and adjusted based on census/resource needs
- Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical Oncology, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience in charge nurse roles
Orientation
- General orientation begins on Sundays (online compliance-based learning)
- Orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable time
Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC certifications as applicable based on unit (verify unit-specific requirements)
- State RN license primary source verification required
- NURSYS verification required
- Medication and competency exams as applicable
- Background checks including education verification, adult abuse registry (if licensed in TN), EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
- Drug screening: Standard 9-panel within 14 days of start
- Immunizations and titers required: MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Negative TB test or chest X-ray
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Respirator medical evaluation and fit testing completed onsite
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
- Various facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed and completed (dress code, smoking policy, exposure statements, etc.)
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not annually)
- References: minimum 2 preferred, 3 ideal
- Skills checklist required
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience seeking a travel contract in medical surgical oncology with a structured schedule and no chemotherapy administration. Prior travel experience is not required.
