Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse
Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a 3 South Stepdown unit with nurse-to-patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:5.
- Requires 2 years of previous Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Stepdown experience.
- Must float within scope of practice.
- Every other weekend shift required.
- Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated.
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
- Candidates must reside within 75 miles of the facility.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kentucky.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Additional Requirements
- Must have a valid government-issued photo ID.
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and employment verifications are required.
- Drug testing must be completed within 30 days of start date.
- Annual physical exam or physician’s note stating clearance to work without restrictions.
- Immunizations and health documents required prior to start:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (valid within 10 years)
- Negative TB test (QuantiFERON blood test within 1 year)
- Proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella vaccinations or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
- Competency exams required including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (updated annually).
- References: Two professional references within 1 year of start date (one must be a supervisor).
- Work history verification covering the last 7 years.
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Schedule follows a 36/48 hour pattern over a two-week pay period.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios may fluctuate based on census and call-ins.
- Driver’s license required for submission.
