Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Hazard, Kentucky

Job Description

• Work on a 3 South Stepdown unit with nurse-to-patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:5.
• Requires 2 years of previous Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Stepdown experience.
• Must float within scope of practice.
• Every other weekend shift required.
• Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated.
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
• Candidates must reside within 75 miles of the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kentucky.
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Additional Requirements

• Must have a valid government-issued photo ID.
• Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and employment verifications are required.
• Drug testing must be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Annual physical exam or physician’s note stating clearance to work without restrictions.
• Immunizations and health documents required prior to start:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (valid within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test (QuantiFERON blood test within 1 year)
  • Proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccinations or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
• Competency exams required including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (updated annually).
• References: Two professional references within 1 year of start date (one must be a supervisor).
• Work history verification covering the last 7 years.

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Schedule follows a 36/48 hour pattern over a two-week pay period.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios may fluctuate based on census and call-ins.
• Driver’s license required for submission.
