Job Opportunity: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - NICU
Location
- Anchorage, Alaska

- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Possibility to fill in day shifts if necessary
Patient Care & Unit Information
- Patient population includes Level 2 ER, PICU, NICU, Trauma, CCU, Floor Therapy, and High Acuity patients
- Floating within scope to various units: CCU, Flex Unit, SDU, Pediatrics, PICU, PCU, and FBS
- Patient diagnoses primarily respiratory therapy cases
- Special equipment used: Servo U, V60, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
Staffing Ratios
- Ratio: 1 Respiratory Therapist to 4 patients
Required Experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
- PICU, NICU, and Adult ICU experience preferred
- First-time travelers are NOT accepted (prior travel experience required)
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have an active Alaska state license prior to starting (compact license accepted at time of submission but AK license required before start)
- Required certifications:
- Certified Respiratory Therapy - NICU (4 years of experience)
- Certified Respiratory Therapy - NICU experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) issued by American Academy of Pediatrics or American Heart Association
Documentation & Systems
- Electronic charting system: Cerner
Work Hours & Scheduling
- Guaranteed up to 36 hours per week
- Locals within 50 miles radius are not accepted
Special Requirements
- Must be able to float within scope to multiple units as needed
- Weekend coverage every other weekend is mandatory
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Standard background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace and county searches for the last 7 years
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required (must be related to respiratory therapy)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no instant tests accepted)
- Physical exam required and must be renewed annually
- Fit mask test required within 1 year prior to start (must be completed before arrival)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (one adult dose)
- Negative TB test (QGOLD, TSPOT, or PPD within 1 year) or chest X-ray if positive
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella titers or 2 vaccines each (boosters allowed pending)
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or facility-specific declination
- Varicella titer or 2 vaccines
- Seasonal flu vaccine highly preferred; medical exemptions require verifiable diagnosis
- COVID-19 vaccine required (initial series or one J&J dose plus seasonal or bivalent booster); medical exemptions accepted with doctor’s letter; declinations and religious exemptions not accepted
Onboarding & Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of personal data, confidentiality, non-employee approval, badge, and background release forms prior to start
- Completion of pre-boarding and non-employee onboarding tasks through facility’s internal portal within deadlines
- Mandatory HealthStream training modules assigned during orientation
- Photo for badge highly preferred but not mandatory
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) AVADE certification required within 12 months of start; renewal annually
- Competency exams required including medication/pharmacology and general competency exams
