Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in a pediatric surgical services environment.
- Orientation starts on Mondays.
- On-call duties required (variable days and times).
- Weekend shifts required.
- No floating between units.
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (8:30 AM – 9:00 PM).
- Total hours per week: 36.
Required Experience & Certifications
- Valid Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) license in Washington.
- Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with adolescent, infant, neonate, or pediatric patients.
- Experience in an inpatient setting.
- Scrub experience required.
- Experience with ultrasound procedures and as an ultrasound technologist.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Experience
- Outpatient surgical experience.
- Level I trauma experience.
- Experience in children’s hospital settings.
- Endoscopy/laparoscopic procedures.
- ENT and robotics experience.
- NBSTSA certification preferred.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Washington State Surgical Tech license (must have license prior to start or allow 6-8 weeks for processing).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider only (instructor not accepted).
- National certification verification required (primary source online verification).
- NBSTSA certification preferred but not mandatory.
Orientation & Training
- Orientation attendance mandatory; no requested time off (RTO) allowed during first 2 weeks.
- Must complete facility-specific modules prior to start, except Epic training and medication assessment which are completed onsite.
- Modules take approximately 8 hours to complete.
- Respiratory protection training provided via facility platform; fit testing required before start (no onsite fit testing allowed).

Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required; must include multiple county civil searches, state and national criminal databases, sex offender registry, and global sanctions.
- Background checks must be current within one year or fully updated if older.
- E-Verify required.
- Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation required if educated outside the U.S.
- Physical exam within 1 year required.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year required.
- Fit test for respirator use required and must be valid for entire assignment.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB screening (Qgold/Tspot or PPD), flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- Respiratory medical clearance required annually for respirator users.
Testing & Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units (PICU, NICU, ER).
- Competency exams require a minimum passing score of 80%.
- Math test administered onsite for all RNs and MAs; remediation allowed if failed.
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing; must be on a blue background with no hats or headwear.
- Meal waiver agreement available but not mandatory unless waiving second meal period.
- Candidates must comply with facility policies and practices prior to start.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
