Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse

Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float between postpartum and antepartum units; may also float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
- Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
- Utilize EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
- Unit includes 4 operating rooms and 31 beds/rooms.
- Schedule: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM), posted every 6 weeks.
- Work every other weekend and holidays as needed; pre-approved time off considered case-by-case.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year.
- At least 2 years of experience working in a high-acuity, high-pace environment.
- Experience working with high-risk patients.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Certification or demonstrated competency in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Clinical Environment & Responsibilities
- High-risk, fast-paced L&D unit requiring strong clinical skills.
- Provide care for newborns immediately post-delivery.
- Circulate in operating rooms during deliveries.
- Use electronic fetal monitoring and EPIC EMR system.
- Follow AWHONN guidelines for staffing and patient care.
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 4 shifts per week (48 hours/week).
- Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Schedule posted every 6 weeks to meet unit needs.
- Floating between postpartum, antepartum, and sister Mother/Baby units required.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card (as applicable).
- Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification (nursing degree) required; international education requires transcript/diploma.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with declination accepted.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with declination accepted.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; instants acceptable.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use (travel only).
- Fit mask test required for travel candidates, updated annually.
- WA State Patrol background search required within 90 days of start for Washington placements.
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
Additional Requirements
- Must complete skills checklist annually for applicable units.
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Must complete electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) certification or fetal heart rate monitoring assessment exam.
- Must acknowledge and comply with float policy (may be required to float to other nearby facilities).
Summary
This is a travel contract opportunity for experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurses with a strong background in high-risk obstetrics and newborn care. The role requires night shifts, floating between related units, and working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Candidates must have current RN licensure, required certifications, and meet all health and compliance documentation prior to start. Prior travel experience is not required.
