Job Opportunity: Histology Tech

Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
Assignment Length: 27 weeks


Job Description

  • Perform histology laboratory duties with excellent technical skills.
  • Work independently and follow through on assignments.
  • Good communication and organizational skills required.
  • Computer literacy preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Associate Degree in Science plus completion of an approved Histology accredited program, OR
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Licensure:
    • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License, OR
    • Certified Histology Technician, OR
    • Clinical Lab Technician certification from NYS Education Department.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform assigned duties independently.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check covering all locations lived, worked, or attended school in the past 7 years, including all aliases.
  • Various federal and state exclusion and sanction list checks within 60 days prior to assignment start.
  • Education verification with primary source verification for all formal education listed.
  • Employment application and 20-year work history verification with no gaps.
  • Signed confidentiality agreement, staff attestation, and harassment factsheet prior to start.
  • Completion of department orientation checklist onsite.
  • Annual background check updates and 8-factor analysis for any felony or misdemeanor hits.

Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Primary Source Verification required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Primary Source Verification required.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Primary Source Verification required.
  • Current/active technical certification with no adverse actions, verified within 60 days prior to start.
  • State license verification within 60 days prior to start.
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Competency exams as applicable to specialty.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, including vital signs, review of systems, medical history, and clearance to work without restrictions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year prior to start; must be completed before assignment.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per specified options within required timeframes.
  • Annual TB questionnaire completion.
  • Immunizations/vaccine records required:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, antigen, or vaccine series with declination if applicable)
    • Hepatitis C titer and treatment documentation if positive
    • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Sept-May), with medical or religious exemptions requiring approval.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen with chain of custody within 60 days prior to start.
  • Vision screening (Snellen) within 12 months of start.
  • Color blind testing if applicable (after failing online exam twice).

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of annual required training modules and facility-specific prestart modules.
  • Compliance with facility-specific documents including code of conduct and safety manual acknowledgment.
  • Completion of state-specific exclusion and registry forms as applicable.
  • References required per agency standards (not client-mandated).

Experience

  • No explicit years of experience stated; however, demonstrated ability to perform duties independently is required.
  • No prior travel experience required.

This position offers a structured day shift with a 27-week travel assignment in a major metropolitan area laboratory setting. Candidates must meet all licensure, certification, health, and compliance requirements prior to start.
