<p>We're looking for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit RNs for an immediate travel nurse opening in Laguna Hills, CA. The right RN should have 1-2 years' recent acute care experience. Read below for more requirements.<br /><br />As a NICU RN, you'll provide critical care to sick and premature infants. Alongside the rest of the care team, NICU RNs assist in providing round-the-clock care to these patients and support to the parents. Parental support can range from emotional encouragement to advising parents on the proper care of their infant when they return home.<br /><br />As a NICU Travel Nurse, you should be prepared to perform the following tasks:</p><ul><li>Care for infants transitioning to extra uterine life.</li><li> Monitor vital signs and initiate corrective action when necessary.</li> <li>Provide nutritional assessment and specialized feedings.</li><li>Change dressings, insert catheters, start IVs.</li> <li>Provide arterial and intravenous therapy.</li><li>Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, such as incubators and ventilators.</li></ul>NICU Travel Nurses should be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean and stoop without difficulty. RNs should be able to easily lift 10-20 pounds of equipment at times. <h3>Assignment Overview</h3><ul><li>Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs</li><li>Hours: 36 hrs/wk</li><li>Start Date: Dec 14, 2026</li><li>Length: 13 weeks</li><li>Openings: 1</li></ul><h3>Description</h3><p>American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a NICU III/IV position requiring 3 years of Level IV NICU experience and high-risk delivery attendance.</p><h3>Details</h3><ul><li>Work in a Level III/IV Neonatal ICU setting</li><li>Patient population includes neonates under 24-28 weeks and 29-34 weeks gestation</li><li>Attend high-risk deliveries as part of unit responsibilities</li><li>Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30</li><li>Floating required to L&amp;D with possible floating between OCM and SMC facilities</li><li>Weekend scheduling as needed to meet unit needs</li><li>No on-call requirements</li><li>Uses EPIC documentation system</li><li>Travelers scheduled based on hospital census</li></ul><h3>Requirements</h3><ul><li>Active CA RN license required in hand at time of consideration</li><li>Current BLS and Advanced NRP certifications required (NRP also listed)</li><li>Minimum 3 years of solid NICU experience required, Level IV preferred though Level III with focused 1:1/1:2 and high-risk delivery/admit experience may be considered</li><li>Previous charge nurse experience required, though training will be provided during orientation if needed</li><li>Prior travel nursing experience required</li><li>Epic charting system experience required</li><li>Skilled in IV therapy, arterial and central line management, UAC/UVC care, and administration of blood products and emergency medications</li><li>Experience with neonatal respiratory support including CPAP, HFNC, high frequency ventilation, oscillators, nitric oxide, and ventilator management</li><li>Competency in neurologic care including seizure disorder management and therapeutic hypothermia</li><li>1 professional reference required, within the last 2 years</li><li>Current Nursys verification required, pulled within 2 weeks of consideration, with no license violations</li></ul><h3>Additional Information</h3><ul><li>Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including developmental care, patient/family teaching, and thermoregulation</li><li>Perform neonatal dosage calculations and administer anti-seizure medications, antibiotics, antivirals, and IV vasopressors</li><li>Support breastfeeding and manage infant feedings including bottle, breast, and gavage methods</li><li>Assist with procedures such as lumbar puncture and ICP monitoring</li><li>Manage isolation precautions, PPE, and sepsis work-ups for infectious disease control</li><li>Local candidates accepted, though at a lower rate for those within 50 miles of the facility</li><li>Previous permanent staff members of the facility are not eligible for consideration</li><li>All requested RTO must be submitted upfront and cannot be added after initial consideration</li><li>First-time travelers are not accepted for this position</li></ul>
