Job Description

• Assess patients on admission considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Reassess patient health needs regularly, at least every shift, using nursing processes.
• Establish and update individualized plans of care based on comprehensive data.
• Administer oral, topical, and parenteral medications following the "7 rights."
• Assess and document medication effectiveness and any adverse effects.
• Perform treatments and procedures adhering to nursing best practices, sterile technique, standard precautions, and patient privacy.
• Document patient responses, pain management, discharge planning, education, and progress toward goals accurately and legibly.
• Educate patients and families based on assessed needs.
• Interpret diagnostic data and intervene appropriately.
• Communicate changes in patient condition promptly to physicians and healthcare team members using SBAR communication.
• Respect patient rights including confidentiality, safety, and participation in care planning.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care planning.
• Manage patients in restraints according to policy.
• Follow National Patient Safety Goals and hospital policies including infection control and blood transfusion protocols.
• Understand and participate in emergency response procedures (e.g., Code Blue, Code Pink, Code Red).
• Perform advanced patient assessments and prioritize care needs.
• Care for patients across the age continuum from birth to geriatric.
• Complete ED skills checklist prior to first scheduled shift.
• Understand patient flow in the Emergency Department including Rapid Medicine Evaluation.
• Perform nursing activities related to admission and discharge.
• Follow the chain of command within the ED.
• Administer high-risk medications safely according to policy.

Required Qualifications

• Current California RN License.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in Emergency Department nursing and Level 1 Trauma.
• At least 2 years of prior travel nursing experience required.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, CPI Certification, TNCC or ATCN, NIHSS, PALS.
• Experience in a facility with at least 40 beds.
• Some exposure to pediatric patients.
• Epic electronic health record experience is highly preferred.
• Travel candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility.
• Must be able to return to work within 8 days maximum after assignment end.
