Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient - Contract
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 9 AM – 5 PM
Hours: Approximately 37.5 hours per week (7 hours per day)

Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality ambulatory care nursing based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice to a designated patient population in an outpatient setting.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care using a relationship-centered care model and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, disease prevention, and transitions of care.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Manage assignments within a modified primary nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, respecting cultural diversity and individual preferences.
- Facilitate patient-centered communication and service recovery when needed.
- Conduct purposeful hourly rounding addressing patient needs proactively.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening in all patient interactions.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Escalate safety hazards or gaps in best practices following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing care accurately to support quality and performance initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and staffing needs with nursing leadership.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
- Ensure cost-effective use of resources while maintaining patient focus.
Professional Development
- Support a positive environment for clinical colleagues, patients, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence and participate in shared decision-making through committees and councils.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year.
- Experience in an outpatient setting.
- Ambulatory care experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience for travel positions.
Additional Information
- Schedule typically involves 3 shifts of 12 hours each (3x12) or similar.
- Strong organizational skills are essential.
